Services
Transitional Living
WINGS Transitional Housing provides single women and
women with children a safe and supportive
environment to address the issues that led to their
homelessness. WINGS service area encompasses the
north and northwest suburbs of Chicago within Cook
and Lake Counties.
Shared Living
Unemployed women and women who have greater
needs for support enter Transitional Housing in
one of our shared living homes where they
receive intense supportive services. Women
typically stay in shared living for
approximately six months however may stay longer
based on individual need. Women are not required
to pay for living expenses for the first six
months of residency.
Independent Living
Apartments are available for women who are ready to
move from shared living and for women that are
already employed and are referred to WINGS from
other agencies. The women pay 30% of their adjusted
gross income towards their living expenses. Women
receive supportive services and work toward
increasing income, reducing debt, and achieving
individual goals.
Individualized Transitional Housing
With a grant from the Office of Violence
Against Women, WINGS and
collaborating agencies Kenneth Young Center, Life
Span and Police Neighborhood Resource Center, can
now offer permanent housing solutions to our
graduates. These grant funds allow WINGS to help
provide graduates rental and utility assistance in
conjunction with supportive services.
Supportive Services
WINGS supportive services are client-centered
and strength-driven, which allows staff to work
with each woman based on her individual
strengths, thereby enabling the women to more
effectively address their needs and meet their
goals. Supportive services include:
-
counseling for women and children
-
parenting classes
-
financial literacy seminars
-
life skills
WINGS also provides
food, personal and infant care products, and
household items through our pantries.
