Project Lifeline
offers the women in the WINGS program and those
who have graduated, the opportunity to pair with
a mentor - a woman from the community who has
volunteered her time to provide support to the
client. The mentor’s role is to offer
companionship, stability, advocacy, career
assistance, home visits and social activities
for the participants.
Mentors and participants make a six-month
commitment to the relationship and then they
begin to build that relationship. As the
relationship continues, the women begin to
trust and respect one another while
developing realistic solutions for the
participant, which can be applied to the
issues of everyday life.
The mentor - participant relationship can take
many forms, and may address some of the
following areas:
Project Lifeline started as a pilot project with
seed money from the Evangelical Lutheran Church
of America in 1999. The ELCA continues to
support this program.
